QLD VETS NEWS

 Edition 1 February 2009

WELCOME TO THE FIRST ONLINE NEWSLETTER FOR QLD VETS.

We are very excited that our very own Qld Vets Website is now operational and in future
much of our communication will be done via this website.  The address is
www.qldmensvetshockey.com and we all should be very proud of the look and information it
contains.

A huge thank-you must go to Bruce Potts from the Sunshine Coast who has volunteered his time and expertise to get our website looking so professional.  Without him the site would be very ordinary and second rate.

Much of this Newsletter will be directing you to sections of the website for more information so  make sure you bookmark (add to your list of favourites) this site so you can return to it easily and often.

  *  Nominaions
  *  Inky Millett Award 2009

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009

As previously advised the State Championships for 2009 are as follows:
  • Over 35, 40 and 50 in Townsville from 2-4 May (Some games may start on Fri night).
  • Over 45 and 55 in Rockhampton from 6-8 June (Some games may start on Fri night).
  • Check out the CALENDAR page on the website for full details and due dates for nominations.

NOMINATIONS

Nominations for teams participating in the State Championships and for individuals wishing to nominate for selection to Qld teams for 2009 will ALL be done online this year.  To Nominate you must go to the NOMINATIONS page of the website and complete the relevant form by following the instructions.  When you click "submit" the form will magically go to the correct email address and you will receive a confirmation EMail which you should bring with you to the championships as proof of your nomination.

Some Points to Help you complete the form:
  • There is a section on the form for you to complete indicating which championship you will be attending - this is very important as some players will be nominating for Over 50's but attending the Over 45 championship in Rockhampton as their centre is only sending an Over 45 team away.
  • If you are nominating for more than one age group please complete a form for each age group.
  • IT IS MOST IMPORTANT THAT THE DUE DATES ARE ADHERED TO AS NOMINATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE FIRST GAME OF EACH CHAMPIONSHIP.
If you have any problems please use the "CONTACT" section of the webpage to get help.

NB:  NO QUEENSLAND TEAMS WILL BE NAMED UNTIL THE CONCLUSION OF THE OVER 45 AND 55 CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ROCKHAMPTON WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE OVER 35 AND OVER 40 DIV 1 TEAMS WHICH WILL BE NAMED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN TOWNSVILLE.

INKEY MILLETT AWARD

Each year Qld Vets present this award to someone who has given outstanding service to hockey throughout his career.  For more information about this award, past recipients and the criteria please look on the "AWARD" page of the website.

HOW TO NOMINATE SOMEONE FOR 2009:

Due Date:   30 June
  • Send a letter outlining your reasons for nomination to the Secretary of Qld Vets - secretary@qldmensvetshockey.com
  • The letter should give detailed information regarding the nominee and his service to Hockey.
  • This award is a service award and not an achievement award.
COACHES & MANAGERS
NOMINATIONS 2009

As advised in the previous newsletter nominations for coaches and managers of Qld teams in 2009 are now being accepted.  Mant people have already sent expressions of interest so if you are interested in these positions send a letter outlining your experience and qualifications to

We all know how vitally important these positions are in each team and if we get enough expressions of interest  from  players/supporters it will avoid last minute selections or as in some cases in previous years no selection at all.

Due Date:   As for Player Nominations.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS MELBOURNE 2009

These will be held from 26 Sept to 10 Oct.  The championships will not be held at the State Hockey Centre but at two suburban centres.  The accommodation for the Qld teams has been tentatively booked and organised.  It is expected that cost will be around $60 per person per night. To see links to the accommodation please visit the "EVENTS" page on the website.

UNIFORMS

As many of you will be aware, this year we will have complete new uniforms.  It has been 3 years since we have changed the uniform - uniforms were due to change last year but because of the additional expense of travelling to Darwin it was decided to delay the costs of uniforms until 2009.  It looks as thought the 2010 championships will be in West Australia so again it will be an expensive trip.

The ordering forms will be on line with payment being made as far as possible directly into the Qld Vets Account.  Watch the website for more information as it becomes available when the Qld teams for 2009 have been announced.

Innerz, a Queensland company, provide quality inners to be worn under shin pads. Available in a variety of colours, both plain and patterned, go to www.innerz.com.au
